Anke roder paints nature and space in imaginary landscapes from her unconscious.

Landscapes in archetypes, horizon and air, landscapes by night and planets of diffuse backgrounds with plants, flowers and organic forms at the foreground. Her work breaths rest and clearness, a world without the presence of human being. Sometimes extinct plant species in her work pose as a symbol for the lingering disappearance of many species.

The paintings are mainly painted in encaustic, bee-wax with dye, an wooden panels and driftwood. This technique provides her work a big transparency and colour-strength. By means of the many layers of paint and the continued work on the panels’ sides, one can feel the energy of the painting process. Considering the landscapes one can see the use of oil-paint in order to imagine the tangible matter of for example earth or water and put up against the not matter of skies.
