To me painting is the imagination of that what’s hidden deep inside my soul; something of which I don’t know the true nature of myself neither. It’s my quest for the essence of the construction of our existence. To me as a painter, it’s the paint that sends for a desire that I want to hush and keep at the same time, that I want to see through and keep secret as well. Where from I occasionally think that it comes together with life, or with paint, nothing more than that, that it just doesn’t exist without paint.
While painting, I try to bring these apparently paradoxical desires to an harmonious equilibrium. An open atmospheric part, soft and vulnerable, as tenuous air painted with a restrained use of colour so that the handwriting is barely visible. This presumed space refers to the distant, the unreachable, the cerebral. This part finds its almost violent antithesis in pasty layers of paint, structured or floating in apparent loose shapes through the space. These intuitive compositions of colour sides and licks of paint refer to the need to create a location, to be somewhere. They support or approach the unknown, full with its colours and the materialistic. In this boldly painted part you feel the mundane, as if you’re touching the earth with your nose. But above all the forced presence of plain paint against the illusion.
