Although Harm Jan Boven graduated as a decorator, through the years the camera became ever increasing important in his illustrative work. In the meantime there exists an archive of thousands of images, the sketchbook of the artist in which the fascination with the working of light in the landscapes and light sources in the sky create an ongoing constant. He practices photography from a pure and direct experience, no use has been made of technical adjustments or digital changeovers. In this light you can call his form of photography 'Raw Photography'. The camera is used as a tool to register an insight, a way of looking and reacting. Many images originate in semi-darkness, the moment that light becomes elusive, mysterious en lively and carries a high degree of abstraction. The contouring fades away, night arises, shutter time gets longer.
