Simone van Bakel gives her work a different form of perception or functionality by putting the ordinary in a different context. She points her scope at her near environment, dismantles it and then recomposes it again in her own specific way. Parts of reality become stripped of their original function so that they aren’t unambiguous, and a new reality unfolds.

Her fascination with the human body forms the reason why she uses existing skin cloqués or bone markings in her works of art. Fragments of the body become printed in objects, or objects leave a print in the skin by a physical touch. By zooming further and further into the body she unfolds hidden systems. Through experimental use of the materials she exposes these hidden systems in eternal clotted forms. Each with it’s own reality, from an almost anatomic obviousness.
